Eurasian Management and Administration School (EMAS Business School) and Student's Efforts to support and promote the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Developmment Goals, SDGs

Firstly, I am declaring that as an EMAS Business School Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) student, I am pledging my support towards the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

As part of my support towards the UN SDGs as per the inspiration of my varsity, EMAS Business School, I will be writing some reports on these goals as part of this initiative and commitment.

This is my first EMAS Business School UN-SDGs support report.

(EMAS-UN SDGs support initiative 1) .

On Monday, 11th October 2021, my varsity, the EMAS Business School based in Mosco, Russia  issued one of the critical Educational Activity Orders, the Regulations on the new rating system for students of the MBA, Executive MBAand DBA programmes.

This rating system aims to assess student's achievements which will reflect the personal achievements of students in educational activitieesas well as social activities. This student performance ranking procedure is determined by and updated every three months by calculating ranking indicators of each of the identified categories. The personal students ranking or achievements assessment categories include individual grades, the learning schedule, networking, social activity and projects implemented by the students in accordance with UN Social Development Goals. Promotion of EMAS Business School in the public space and the promotion of the activities and development of the EMAS Business School. This new rating system will be effective as of the last quarter of the year.

Although this noble initiative amongst others aims to inspire students to achieve high marks and pass their individual modules and finally their courses/programmes, what further makes it spectacular is the fact that the school management included the UN Sustainable Developmental Goals, which are aimed at making the world a better place for all. Instilling this noble and feat activity in the minds of students is so critical for saving lives, eradicate hunger and poverty and do as per the 17 UN SDGs expectations.

According to the school authorities (in the notice shared with the students and on the EMAS Business School Face Book Page), " the world around us is constantly changing. The economy, society and trends are changing and those who do not kow how to adapt often lose". The school leadership further says EMAS always strives to improve the quality of its programmes, studies modern tools in the field of business and education and actively implement them in its activities.

This is indeed a special decision for a varsity to inspire its community and especially students to be part of the change they want to see on the planet. And I wonder, how many varsities have so far implemented such a unique initiative to form part of the student's educational activities, but most importantly formal activity which now stands as a regulation and order of the EMAS Business School.

As an EMAS Business School DBA student, I am committed to be part of the change as driven by my school and promise to support the UN SDGs by personally participating in the activities to do just that and promte the 17 SDGs on my various social media platforms and where possible, share these with my friends and colleagues on different ocassions.

My next post will list and highlight the 17 as DG as indicated on the WILIPEDIA page & UN platforms just to create the general awareness about the said SDGs. After that, I will briefly upack each one of the SDGs, again, just to reiterate the importance of its meaning and impact.

Keep watching this space. Only at EMAS Business School and by EMAS Business School students.

EMAS-SSBM Varsities Vectoring towards real & tangible empowerment of their graduates:

Firstly, I must admit that I have only recently learnt about vectorness as part of my strategic management studies leadership module, which  amongst others touches on strategic thinking and creating competencies that a modern leader should have.

I learnt about a vector-leader and a points leader. And without going into details, vectorness if I may roughly explain it has to do with moving forward - in terms of goal setting -progress and subsequently achieving success. The vector-leader has inner strength and is most of the time enthusiastic and happy based on the process of moving forward - compared to the points leader who mainly ends up being torn between factors such as dependancy on other persons to achieve his or her set goals and during that such goals may take. The vector-leader is trusted by colleagues as a strong leader - and colleagues usually trust that leader to chart the vision - and executive it as the top level.

I am sure you can read more about these two types of leadership tags mainly the one of vectorness of process leadership  it as it is really the way to for for modern captains of industry.

Thanks to the EMAS (Eurasian Management and Administration School and Swiss School of Business and Management, SSBM for the opportunity they granted me to be part of their virtual campus family (EMAS-SSBM Community).

Now, back to the topic. In many countries, the trend has been that the varsities produce or qualify hundreds if not thousands of graduates in different disciplines year in and year out. These graduates are usually equipped with relevant skills with some of them being researchers & inventors whose novel knowledge my contribute to injecting much needed strength in some economies even just at grassroots level where " bread and butter issues" are the talk of the nation daily.

Once they are qualified, graduates most of the time especially in struggling economies with high unemployment rates grapple & jostle to enter the job market even though they may have graduated from reknown or academically and internationally high ranked varsities, at times with cum laude.

The question that has never come to mind however  (during my 30-years of my professional career) is, do these institutions that produce these highly qualified graduates also consider absorbing  some of them into their structures?

I believe, at times, such varsities also have a need to fill some vacancies in some faculties - but do these varsities take in their own products?

Yes, I am aware of opportunities like tutoring, moderating, guest lecturing or assisting personnel or so that sometime may be offered to new graduate for short periods only. But I am talking about proper recruiting as the job market would do based on the competencies obtained from the same institution.

It is my believe that if the varsity offers high quality and bench-marked education - it will never doubt getting its own graduates on board - to inject some new way of thinking among students and subsequently nations as part of modern teaching at academic level.

This week, as I surfed through EMAS' social media platforms as a way to acquiant myself with some of the varsity's Face book page, Linked, Youtube and related platforms, boom, I came across a picture of former EMAS students, who have now graduated - called back to the varsity to come plough back into their institution and subsequently the world as the varsity has students of different nationalities from across the globe including this author.

These graduates do not only teach at these varsities but offer professional knowledge to businesses - as consultants as the varsities work with well known international companies which I many not mention here now because of the usual client or partnership details that may only be used for the purpose these are intended.

Similarly, the partner varsity, the SSBM also seemed to have been using the same method as one of the Professors who was teaching one of the modules I attended this week - also obtained his doctorate at the same institution, just some months back. Yes, some of these graduates may have been experts already through their own careers and only came to put "a cherry on the cake"  as part of their professional career growth by obtaining doctorate degrees or MBAs.

But, what struck me is the fact that the EMAS Varsity and SSBM are vectoring towards real empowerment of their graduates by taking them on board to share their new knowledge they obtained throughout their studies. And with the latest technology, some of these students are lecturing virtually - from their comfort of their countries - since we are in a "Global  Virtual -Varsity-Village".

This vectorness or progressiveness of these two varsities in terms of leadership may be a norm among some varsities, but to some of us, it is a trend worth emulating - because, it is a sign of varsities showing confidence in their own products. Vectorness as you may know centres around goal setting and achieving success - by moving in a particular diretion - in this case  -graduates  move towards their career mastery - the last stage of leadership which I also came to know recently as part of the same leadership module.

Leadership has four stages, take-off, which is mainly the first stages of one's career growth - full of energy, pretty and supported by mainly senior staff to growth through the ranks, then crises, which is a stage after one has climbed the lader and later feel a bit stagnant and with almost no support from any one. During that time, managers feel the pressure on them and most of the time have lost some energy and may feel that colleagues are demanding more from that managers and that it takes so much efforts for that particular manager to deliver. And to rescue oneself from this stage, the particular manager has to even taken tough decisions to for instance pay for further studies to acquire new knowledge and not rely on the work place or any other good samaritan to pay for his or her studies/

Only few managers manage to pull themselfs out of this quagmire if I may call it that way - and move to the next stage of rebirth - when the manager decides to do soul searching and take drastic steps to chuck out any useless behaviour and time or resourcew wasting from one's day to day leadership action. That's one a managers has to weigh each decision before it is taken - its cost benefit analysis and all. The last stage is then that of mastery as we learnt if from the leadership module basically meaning, the particular leader makes the new or modern way of leadership inherent or part of his or her day to day decision-making processes.

Now can you image the benefits of varsities' vectorness towards empowering their graduates in terms of having confidence in their output based on the competencies they acquired during studies.

If both the public and private businesses do the same, there will be great vectorness among the leaders in general in various countries in general. In other words, there are businesses that for instance sponsor students to go study - based on their companies' areas of interest and potential future professional needs.

If such companies can also absorb some of the graduates once they are done with their studies, the issue of jostling for the job market may be eased in a way, not only in a particular country but around the world.

The question of relying or expecting the government to provide jobs to all graduates may also be slowly but surely be tackled head-on through this vectorness leadership.

I have also noticed on EMAS varsity's social media pages, that in its alumni section, it has a job's secion, meaning, its graduates and former students can also see what the varsity is offering - to them. There are also network plaftorms where by current and former students work together on potential business opportuntiies based on the acquired knowledge from EMAS.

Students are asked to send short videos to briefly talk about themselves and their business - and such a video clip is uploaded on the varsities various social media platforms with the aim to net work and for students and graduates to team up for potential business joint ventures. Again, this to me is a sign of confidence in the quality of educatoin the varsity transferred to the graduates - and that they can in turn impart such knowledge to others at diffeent levels including among the varsity community. This is really unique, may be only to me -and that is why I am sharing such knowlege as sharing is caring.

Once again, the EMAS-SSBM vectorness leadershi of empowering their varsity graduates is really inspiring & can serve as model for the " Global Virtua-Varsity -Village"  (the Academic World), going forward.

Be Innovative, Be Connected, Network from the comfort of your home, be EMAS, be a Vector-Leader!

This post is aimed at inspiring various varsitities and general leadership to continue with critical thinking and come up with solutions to problems facing various countries, such as graduates who at times end up jostling for jobs or government-dependent, or leaders who may find themselves in the crises stages and may not know how to come out of that deep hole or just showing confidence in own products. The author of this post likes to empower others via information sharing as access to knowledge is critical.
