Another Namibian woman hacked to death with an axe by her boyfriend

On 05 February 2014, I posted a report on a this blog about a 24 year old Namibia whose head was cut off by a boyfriend in the Northern part of Namibia's Omusati Region as a result of what is referred as passion killing although others question why passion if there is killing attached to it.

About two weeks after the incident, the country is again grappling with another passion killing related incident also from the same region. A 28 year old woman was hacked to death in the presence of her 4 year old daughter. That baby girl apparently was the one who ran to an uncle in a nearby homestead to report what she saw and the uncle upon inspection found her mom with an axe stuck in her head and her body in the pool of blood.

What has gone wrong to our men folk? Is is really passion killing or what is the matter? Are the men perhaps stuck with challenges in their relationships which they fail to solve and therefore resort to what seems easy to them, killing their partners?

Many Namibians are still trying to find a solution to this problem -- is it a social problem that seems to be facing various communities, is it the gender equality question, is is the economic imbalance question or the inability for a man to to imagine  himself  being dumped by the person he seemed to have loved upon a time - and mainly the inability to live with that situation, to manage potential shame and the fact that he has been left to rather look for another woman?

Is this another epidemy that needs urgent attention to solve - to educate men to learn to know how to deal with commplext relationship or love related problems. What about our women, how can they spot potential murder symptons in their men - how can they stay away from abusive relationship before they become victims? What is the contribution of the parents in this situation, what can the community leaders, headmen, councillors, churches and government leaders towards finding a solution to this problem?

How many more women will Namibia lose because of passion killing related matters? Who is next? Isn't this situation instilling fear in many of our women especilaly those in relationship - especially when their partners seem to be unhappy about some love related matters?

Where can Namibia learn good practices to avoid such situations. When the HIV/AIDS situation was rife, and especially in Namibia, people use to say Namibians could learn from the Ugandan's situation - now I am tempted to ask and ask - where can Namibia get some good examples to attend to this passion killing situations?? So sad, really....
