Namibians at home and abroad have exactly ten days left to register as eligible voters for the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections in November 2014

Namibia is to record her third State President after independence obtaind on 21st March 1990. The Founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma was succeeded by seating President Dr Hifikepunye Pohamba who is to step down on 21st March 2015 after serving his full two terms.

As part of State Power handing over process.... Namibia will hold elections in November this year. Since all eligible voters are supposed to register for elections every ten years, the country on the 15th of January 2014 started with the voters registration process scheduled to end on the 02 of March 2014.

Therefore today, 20th February 2014 - potential voters who must still register have ten days on the dot to do so. Namibia's population is 2.1 million people according to the laterst population survey data. However by Friday, 21 Feb 2014, the Electoral Commission of Namibia reported that it has so far registered over 800 thousand eligible voters and the idea is to at least register half ot the total population.

Now, my question is - and especially to the young people and all those who just turned 18 years - have you done your part, by registering as a voter? Do you know that is it only that registration document that can allow you to cast your vote in November 2014? Do you know that by being registered as an eligble voter, you will exercise your right to vote and choose the leaders of your choice when you are in that voting both?

What does it mean for Namibia to have only recorded over 600 thousand eligible voters so far? Does it mean that there could still be thousands - potential voters out there but who are waiting for the eleventh hour? Off late we hear that the registration centres do not have long queues, while some hardly receive potential voters constantly. The centres are sually open from early morning till 19h00 country wide. Potential voters need to take their identity documents - ID or Passport together with some municipal bills with to their residential areas - but there are also other arrangemnts such as having two deponents who can confirm the potential eligible voter's  status.

So, go now - and register, don't wait for the last minute... you have ample time now.. don't miss this key national opportunity to be a legible voter with full rights to vote for the leadrs of your choice. If you think carefully, the countdown to the votering station starts right away - and you have to act now. Your count down actually start now....tomorrow, you wll have only nine days to go...

As for the author of this post - she has already registered and everyone in her resident has also done so - an example of bing a good law abiding citizen indeed.
